Kemet (series)

2025

Rooted in the thread as a site of tension and regeneration, the Kemet series approaches material and gesture as metaphor for continuity, resilience and the capacity to endure and transform in times of instability.
The use of black fibres, through their varied shades, densities and textures, evokes the symbolic weight of a dark and fertile soil. The title is borrowed from the ancient Egyptian term Kemet, meaning “black land”. The name refers to the silt deposited by the floods of the Nile, which made agriculture possible in an otherwise arid region.
Here, the material is not intended as a historical reference, but as a way of reflecting simbolically on what endures, what persists, and what is transformed.
