Kemet (series)

The Kemet series consists of three pieces built around thread as an element of transformation and memory. They explore process, rhythm, and materiality, connected to repeated gestures and states of passage.
The black thread acts as a vector of continuity, rupture, and regeneration. The exclusive use of black fibers — in their various shades, densities, and textures — evokes the symbolic weight of fertile, dark soil. The title is borrowed from the ancient Egyptian term kemet, meaning “black land”: these soils, deposited by the Nile’s flood, made agriculture possible in an arid region.
Here, the material is not a historical reference but a component of contemporary thought on what endures, persists, and transforms.
